Portfolio Sheet - Startup Info


  • My Country - Sets the currency mode for the spreadsheet. Either Canada or USA.


  • Starting Date - Records the start date for your investment activities.


  • Cash Injection - Opening cash value of your account. Used to add or remove cash from the overall account.


  • Market Value Adjustment - Adjustment to current market value to account for currecny discrepencies and other price variations that may be hidden or unknown.

    Portfolio Sheet - Dashboard Totals

  • Total Cost of Positions - tracks all purchases for every trade since the spreadsheet was started.
  • Total Value of Positions - tracks the total book value and market value for all positions entered IN and OUT.
  • Tot Return Value - displays the current total return value ($) for your entire portfolio since the spreadsheet was started.
  • Tot Return Rate - displays the current total return rate (%) for your entire portfolio since the spreadsheet was started.
  • Tot Trade Fees - tracks all trade fees paid for all trades. These fees are accounted for as costs in the in the total return value bottom line.
  • Account Value - displays the current account value of your portfolio including cash and market value positions.
  • Book Value - cost of the stocks (including trade fees) that were purchased for current entry positions.
  • Market Value - current market calue of all entered positions.
  • Market Change ($) - gain or loss in dollars of current entry positions.
  • Market Change (%) - gain or loss as percentage of current entry positions.
  • Dividends Earned - dividend dollars earned from all stocks since spreadsheet was started. The are included as gains in the total return bottm line.
  • Buying Power - displays the balance of available cash in your account available for investing.
  • Positions Entered - tracks your trading record.
  • WINS - displays the total of all completed wins and current entry positions that are winning.
  • LOSSES - displays the total of all completed losses and current entry positions that are losing.
  • TIES - displays the total of all completed ties and current entry positions that are tied.
  • TRADE AVERAGE - displays your overall trading average.

    • The currency conversion rate is auto filled in by yahoo finance when the spreadsheet is opened or when the country is changed. It displays the currency conversion for either CAD/USD or USD/CAD depending on your home country. Its used to determine the correct cost of a stock when a Canadian investor buys a stock on the Nasdaq or NYSE (US Stock) and vice-versa for an American investor.

  • When entering a stock symbol on the main portfolio sheet, the suffix identifies where the stock is traded. For example, the Nasdaq or NYSE has no extension (V for VISA). Buying a stock on the TSX Toronto Exchange requires a .TO suffix (BNS.TO for Bank of Nova Scotia).
